Reception premises and tack room

Reception premises reflect the image  the equestrian structure wishes to give the visitors and customers, and should therefore be given careful thought. The tack room is used on a daily basis, as is the reception, they should be functional to facilitate work and to enhance safety.

The office

The office should be easily located by visitors, and should allow a view over the stables to facilitate surveillance.

The surface should be around 12m2. It should be equipped with an electricity supply, heating, and ideally a phone line. It is advisable to locate the office near the other heated buildings.

The office can house a first aid cabinet with the basic first aid essentials to deal with rider injuries, and a vetrerinary first aid cabinet, containing any veterinary products needing to be kept refrigerated under lock and key with the corresponding veterinary prescriptions.

Club house

The club house is by definition a friendly common room. It should be located alonside the other heated buildings.

It can be laid out to encompass a view over the indoor school or the arenas. Visibility of the indoor school should be made accessible to all types of public, including to persons with reduced mobility.

The recommended surface is between 40 and 50 m².

anitary facilities

Toilets, washbasins, showers, and even changing rooms should be planned in sufficient numbers for the number of people who will visit the structure (on a daily basis, but without forgetting the events). They should be well designed, especially with regard to lighting and ventilation, and should be well maintained.

Energy saving devices can be fitted : push-type water saving taps on hand basins and showers,  low flow water efficient taps, etc. It is better to choose heavy duty equipment designed for communities, which will last longer to general wear and tear.

Regarding regulations, more information can be obtained from « Jeunesse et Sports » (Youth and Sports administration),  and from Health and welfare services.

Tack room

A tack room is essential to keep equipment in good conditions. For leather work it should repect the following :

  • Be well ventilated
  • Be heated (moderately, to keep the hygrometry down when the weather is damp)
  • Be equipped with access to water for cleaning bits and leather.

Again, locating the tack room near the other heated buildings will be be more economical, but it should also be near the stables, keeping in mind that the damp acidic atmosphere of the stables can be harmful to the leather equipment.

Each horse should have a saddle rack and two bridle hooks (for bridles, headcollars, lead ropes a    nd lunge lines). Access to water and a cupboard for other equipment (boots, protective equipment…) should be provided. Depending on your needs, space to store rugs can also be factored in as they can take up quite a lot of space.

Three saddle racks can be placed one over the other , 2 bridle hangers one over the other, otherwise bridles can be hung off the end of the saddle racks.
